She's called Progressive Insurance home for 26 years - St. Petersburg Times

Everyone knows Flo, the ubiquitous face of Progressive Insurance who seems to pop up during every commercial break.

But while the perky pitchwoman may make insurance look easy with her handy scanner and big-box discounts, the real work is done by people like Tammy Taylor, who has worked at the insurance company's Tampa office for more than two decades.

A recruiting supervisor, Taylor says her 26 years at Progressive may sound like a long time, but to her it has gone by much more quickly thanks to the people and the atmosphere at Progressive.

"I love the dynamic of the ever-changing environment here," Taylor says. "We have a lot of smart people and things are constantly changing."

The Progressive Group of Insurance Companies, the fourth largest auto insurer in the country and the largest seller of motorcycle insurance, operates six offices in the bay area, including a sprawling campus in Riverview.

The Tampa Bay Times and Workplace Dynamics recently named Progressive one of Tampa Bay's Top 75 Workplaces. It was one of only two SouthShore & Brandon area workplaces, the Bridges being the other, that made the list.

The list of the top 75 places to work in the Tampa Bay area was developed in partnership with Workplace Dynamics. The project involved surveying 132 bay area companies and 33,838 employees.

More than a quarter century at one place could develop into a slog for some, but Taylor says her job is anything but mundane.

"I am always managing different people and new systems. I don't feel like I am doing the same thing every year."

Taylor also sees little turnover at her Tampa office, another sign, she believes, that employees are finding their jobs rewarding.

That kind of continuity also makes for a more harmonious atmosphere, Taylor says.

"I have friends I met 26 years ago at Progressive and we are still friends to this day. I know people say it a lot but we really are like a family here. You become close to co-workers and managers."
